something in the process! At first, it seemed as though it was the same old lessons that I learned in school: colors, shapes, letters, and numbers. But I realized that whoever made Sesame Street knew that there were much harder things in life than preschool math; things like love, life, divorce, and death, things that directly affected my own family. Throughout the trials and tribulations of my childhood, Sesame Street always knew exactly what to say to let me know that everything would be just fine.

Though it feels like I've seen about a thousand Sesame Street episodes and reruns, only one remains the most profound and vivid in my mind; the day Mr. Hooper dies. In the episode, Big Bird makes portraits of all his friends and passes them out. With only Mr. Hooper's portrait in his hand, he realizes that he isn't there.
