This type of cancer is estimated to affect 300,000 people. There
are three forms, basal cell, carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and
malignant melanoma. Basal cell and squamous cell are the most common and
most treatable.
Basal cell carcinoma is a tumor of the skin usually appears as a
small, fleshy bump or and hands. These nodules may appear occasionally on
the bottom of the body, usually of flat growths. Basal cell carcinomas
very rarely occurs in dark-skinned people it is most commonly found in
Caucasians. It has been found that people hair, eyes and complexions and

year.

Another type of this cancer is malignant melanoma. Malignant
melanoma is the most harmful. It develops on about 32,000 Americans
annually. Every year are estimated 6,800 Americans will die from melanoma.
Melanoma like its less aggressive cousins, basal cell and squamous cell
carcinomas, is almost always curable in its early stages.

Melanoma has its beginnings in melanocytes, the skin cells that
produce the dark protective pigment called melanin. It is melanin that is
responsible for suntanned skin, acting as partial protection against sun.
Melanoma cells usually continue to produce melanin, which accounts for it
to appear in mixed shades of tan, brown, and black melanoma has a tendency
