It was never going to be an ordinary day. Ettore Gagliardo was unable to sleep all night due to his newly born son, Ettore Jr., crying all night. Edna Hallmark, Ettore's wife, finally woke up and took care of the crying baby so that Ettore could sleep longer before a long day at work. Right as she walked out of the bedroom toward the brightly colored family room with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee surrounding her, the house began violently shaking. baby tightly and cried, wishing that this all was a dream. A fellow friend saw her and tried to comfort her. The friend took her to one of the houses that remained. There, they ate, and tried to think of where to go from here.
After a few hours, they came up with an idea. Edna should take Ettore Jr. to America so they can try and move forward from this tragic event. Through all the second guessing, the plan to go to America was in place. The kind friend lent them enough money to go the following week. The conditions were quite poor, and it seems as though many were ill. Luckily Edna and the baby did not get sick over one week of travel overseas. All of a sudden, everyone was shouting on multiple languages "Look there it is!"
