Sonnet 71: Forget Me When I’m Gone?

This repetiveness of forgetting the poet would really make the audience feel guilty, and make the audience feel obligated to mourn, which is the poet’s true intentions in writing this particular poem.
This poem does contain some imagery reinforced by alliteration. The words, “surely sullen bell”. The sullen bell is a form of auditory imagery. It simulates bells chiming at a funeral service at a church. The bells are really the only vivid imagery used. The lines after that contain little to none. However, the vivid imagery of the bells becomes even more impactful since it stands alone in the poem.
I feel this poem wasn’t too hard to distinguish it’s meaning. It seems to be pretty straight forward in meaning, but very deep in impact. When researching this poem I discovered that it should be read with Sonnet 72. They contain the same theme. So, for more depth and analysis I would suggest reading them together.
