In 1971, Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegl first opened Starbucks in Seattle. They decided that they needed to hire someone to manage the retail and marking. They then hired Howard Schultz. In 1983, Starbucks Corporation bought Peet's Coffee. A few months later, Howard Schultz was in Milan and loved the idea of espresso and Italian coffee bars. After Schultz came back home, he was determined to bring Milan's Italian coffee bars to the United States, but was shut down by bosses because they were hesitate about the idea. A year later, Starbucks Company was not improving and Schultz was thriving. "The company's managers were also increasingly aggravated by the lack of wholesale quality control, so they sold their wholesale line. Schultz approached his old colleagues with an attractive offer: how about $4 million for the six-unit Starbucks chain" (Advameg)?
