The aim for this research proposal is to describe and evaluate the impact of trade on Pak-US military ties. In my research proposal I will try to highlight the major factors in reference to trade which have affected Pak-US military ties during the 1990's. Trade of a nation is of vital importance to enhance military ties with another nation.
The importance of Pak-US ties, especially military ties, can be traced back a long way in time. The United States and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1947. The U.S agreement to provide economic and military assitance to Pakistan and the latter's partnership in the Baghdad Pact/CENTO and SEATO strengthened relations between the two nations. ...

After the Russian invasion in Afghanistan in December 1979, Pak-US military ties once again gained importance as Pakistan was considered to be the only buffer state left to fight against Communism. During this era the United States of America in the form of cash, military hardware and experts, pumped unlimited military aid into Pakistan. Towards the end of 1980's, after the Russian pull-out from Afghanistan and failure of President Reagan to satisfy the Congress that Pakistan is not building a nuclear device, various amendments started to take effect in the United Sates of America which were later imposed on Pakistan.

Even though many detailed studies have been conducted on the subject of Pak-U.S. military relations and the impact trade has on them, there are many questions, which come to mind. For example, how has trade affected thee relationship between Pakistan and U.S.A? Has the Non-Proliferation Act had a colossal affect on Pakistan's economy/trade or not? How ...
