Staying in the Moment with Life

A Rose for Emily is a very complex story. Many people hate to let things go. People find security and comfort in their possessions and the company they keep. If all this is ripped away from a person, it can have a very negative effect on that person’s life. In Faulkner’s short story, “A Rose for Emily,” everything that Miss Emily knows is gradually taken away from her gradually leading to her madness. She was deprived of a normal upbringing. Her father shielded her from the rest of the world, which made her the individual she later becomes. He did this out of love. Emily suffers from a very skewed perception of the world.

Emily is obsessed with halting the unwavering passage of time, and it is her obsession that causes her to be unable to accept death. People may resort to desperate measures to prevent being alone in life and to prevent being away from the ones they love.

Emily's grew up around her father. Her life was hard. Emily's father was a very strict man. Her father was the dictator in their relationship. Emily's white garment represents how pure and innocent she was. Her father robbed her from a normal childhood and life by shielding her from the men in her life and the world around her. In Miss Emily's life her father is the first thing taken from her, and everything went downhill from there. Causing Emily to isolate herself from the outside world.
