As a doctor faced with this dilemma, I would have little trouble choosing a course of action. Although it would be difficult to watch a long-time patient willingly endanger her health and leave her ten children without a mother, I could never perform an operation or procedure without consent. It is more about free will and choice than about religious belief. I would choose not to perform the sterilization not because I respected the woman's religious beliefs, but because I respect her free will and right to self-determination.
