Struggles in "A Sorrowful Woman” and "A Secret Sorrow”

"A Sorrowful Woman” and "A Secret Sorrow” are stories that reflect the struggles of two women in their respective relationships. The lead character in the first story is married to a good man and has one child. Faye, the woman in the second story, is engaged to her husband. However her secret and her dilemma lie in knowing that she can’t bear children. Love for some, is the ultimate answer to every problem in a person’s life. With love, nothing is insurmountable. However, love in the two stories did not result to happiness for one of the characters.

bore him children. After tearful episodes, the couple resolved their problem and ended up marrying and being happy. Meanwhile, the married woman isolated herself from her family. Instead of airing her side and letting her husband and child knew about the situation, she chose to lock herself in her room and stopped doing the usual things she did. In the end, the woman left her family, choosing the coward’s way out by ending her life.
There are many differences between "A Secret Sorrow" and "A Sorrowful Woman". One difference is the problems that the two women face. In "A Secret Sorrow" Faye deals with a physical problem, the inability to produce children. In "A Sorrowful Woman" on the other hand the unnamed wife deals with a psychological problem, making it more complex and difficult to fix.
Another difference is the role the men play in the stories. Kai, from "A Secret Sorrow" has a forceful role, he plays the role of the average formula fiction man, and he’s masculine, ...
