Those who struggle with major depression committed sixty percent of all suicides. Although depression is said to be the leading symptom of all suicides, there are plenty of other things that contribute to one’s suicide, such as substance abuse. People may turn to substances such as illicit drugs, alcohol, or tobacco as means of altering their perception of things, escaping, or as a way of coping. One may misuse or abuse such things in order to ignore their physical or emotional pain.
