Summary Of Mary Shelly's Frankestein

"Frankenstein"


Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein" is set in Europe in the 1790's. The novel is partially narrated through a series of letters from Captain Robert Walton to his sister, Margaret Saville. Walton had set out on an expedition to explore the North Pole and while his ship is trapped in frozen water, the crew spots in the distance, a giant man on a dogsled. Some hours later, they find Frankenstein and his dogsled, and bring him aboard ship to nurse him back to health. During his recovery, Frankenstein, tells his story to Walton as a caution in his pursuit of glory.

In Geneva, the monster meets a young boy in the woods, planning to kidnap him as a companion. However, when he discovers that the boy is Frankenstein's younger brother, the monster kills him, removes a necklace, and plants it in a servant girl's dress, thus sealing her fate for the crime.
