The Arena Football League

The NFL’s upstart competition is considerably different. The AFL’s
fan base is relatively small. There has been only one “superstar” to come
out of . That player is Kurt Warner of the St.
Louis Rams. No one had really heard much of him or the league until this
year when Kurt Warner and the St. Louis Rams busted onto the scene. They
went on to win the Superbowl and the Iowa Barnstormers came into the media
in a large way. Mr. Warner formerly played for that Barnstormers. The “
fans” of the AFL came out of the wood work like ants to a sucker dropped to
the ground by a toddler. After the hoopla of Kurt Warner faded from the

of the AFL need to put
their heads together and find what they need to get their league above
water. If they get more publicity and a consequently larger fan base they
will be able to expand. Again bluntly, expansion leads to money.
The game-play format of the AFL is at the completely opposite end
of the sporting spectrum of that of the NFL. The field is 50 yards long, 4
downs is all you get to cross mid-field and the field goals are suspended
above the back of the endzone. The game is more high scoring, they do try
to make it more exciting but scoring every 1 minute 30 seconds tends to get
a bit boring. They all play on Astroturf. Hense “Arena” football, but
this leads to more injuries and a shorter playing life for the athletes.
Both games are played with an oblong ball. Equipment is the same.
Yet, there are still far too many differences that overwhelm the
similarities. The games are far too different to be compared as the same
