The bubonic plague was the deadly disease which struck during the 1300s in Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. The disease was also called Black Death because of the purplish- black spots it left on its victims. The consequences of the disease were catastrophic because it killed a huge amount of people. It wiped out approximately one-third of the European population and two-thirds of the population in some areas of China. The quick spread of this deadly disease was caused by the interactions between the cultures. so the bubonic plague spread with an incredible speed. One of the possible preventions was maintaining a high hygiene standard which was not that easy in medieval times. Therefore, the plague spread really quickly in 1300s. In 1300s they also lacked some basic medical knowledge. For example, they did not care about the basic hygiene like washing hands after working with sick people. However, nowadays the plague is not that common because we have better medical knowledge and higher hygiene standards than before.
The bubonic plague affected the social and religious life very much. There was a huge panic during the plague. Nobody was completely sure whether they would survive this disaster. People abandoned their relatives because they wanted to survive. Even mothers refused to care about their sick children because they were afraid of catching this disease.
