The Civil War

The election of 1860 had many effects such as the start of the Civil War and the secession of the southern states. The Civil War was between the states that took place after Lincoln became president. Eleven southern states left the Union, making the Confederate States of America.
The Civil War began with the dropping of the Southern States. Lincoln said, “I have no purpose… to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. No state, upon its own mere action, can lawfully get out of the Union.” (Abraham Lincoln.
