The Crucible


The poem I have chosen to write has to deal with honesty and
loyalty. In the story written by Arthur Miller, , it’s major
theme is truth and whether or not lying is better and under what
circumstances it is acceptable. I will relate the theme of truth and
honesty to other themes in the book and discuss how my poem and the story
are related in different ways. Although lying may be the only option at
some points in life, it only leads to more lies in your life.
Paris is presented as pitful man in this story, when we see that
he is actually more concerned about his position than about his sick

is clearly revealed. The irresponsible accusations have resulted in the
deaths of twenty people. But later on in the story the truth comes back to
haunt them because they are the ones who end up being accused for
witchcraft. I mentioned in line 23 of my poem, sooner or later the truth
will come out and you have to be ready to confront it. She tried to cover
it but the lies continued to pile up until she could no longer cover them
and she was caught in her own lie.
In Act II John Proctor tries to make Mary Warren go to court to
declare that Abigail is a liar, but she warns him that Abigail will accuse
him . Through out this story Abigail had lied and made up stories. Now
John Proctor was going to force Mary Warren to lie about Abigail. As I
wrote in my poem, rather than lying and telling one should tell the truth.
If the truth would have come out from the beginning, things would have
never gotten so crazy. All there lying came back to haunt them and kill
them.
