“I am a good girl. I’m proper” (1057). Abigail Williams said these words in defense of her actions. Is she good and proper? In by Arthur Miller, Abigail lied about other characters, saying that they were witches and had sold their souls to Satan. She wanted to take the focus off of her own actions of drinking blood and dancing in the woods, therefore she accused others in the village of being with the Devil. The others girls that were in the woods dancing and keeping company with Abigail, then started to follow her lead. They named and accused several more people in the village for being with the devil. In other words, if they pointed their fingers at others in the village, then they were not thought of as being evil themselves.
