The Darling
Olga was quite a darling. She was quiet, compassionate, plump, and always had an ingenious smile connecting her two rosy cheeks. What was not to love? Unfortunately, she had a major personality glitch. She didn�t have one of her own.
In the beginning, as Kukin was complaining about the rain on his garden, he said, �That�s our life for you Olga...You work, do your very best, always thinking how to make it better---and what happens? Pustovalov came along, she once again fell in love. This changed her life of theater into a new life of business. �Whatever ideas her husband had became her own (Chekov, 49).�
At one point, her trying so hard to act like the one she loved drove a third affair away. This third affair was the veterinarian who was there for her after Pustavolov died. Quickly, her mocking behavior got on his nerves. She would interrupt his meetings with the other veterinarians, trying to add in her comments that she thought would contribute to their conversations. Actually, she had no idea what she was talking about. She really couldn�t think exactly like the veterinarian because she had not learned to be a veterinarian herself. This concept was a hard one for her to face, but after her interruptions, she would sweet-talk Smirnin. Easily, he would forgive her. However, her sweet-talk did not work for long.
