The French Renaissance took place in the 16th century. This was modeled after the Italian Renaissance, which took place in the 14th century. The French Renaissance brought new ideals of humanism, which brought back the ideals of Greek and Roman arts and also stressed importance upon the individual. One humanist was Marguerite de Navarre. She was the sister to the King, Francis I. One of her main literary works was "The Heptameron." During the time was written Aristocracy was beginning to loose control, woman were being more educated, and most importantly, priesthood authority was being questioned.
