The History Of The Black Panther Party



The Black Panther Party was a progressive political organization formed in the early 60’s, although they didn’t have many members until later, that helped in the biggest movement for civil rights in the US, the Civil Rights Movement. It is the only armed black organization in history that fought against slavery and oppression in the US. It represented the greatest idea in the struggle for equality, the idea of a black militaristic group actually fighting for themselves instead of just using non-violent protests.

The founders created a list of 10 wants and beliefs of the Black Panther Party known as “The Ten Point Platform and Program”, including a want for freedom of all African Americans and a want of police brutalities to stop. This list formed the basis of the entire party. All members had to follow the Platform. The members who violated it were kicked out of the Panthers.
