The lady with the pet dog is a romantic story that was written by Anton Chekhov in 1899. Anton gave up his medical degree to persue his dream to become a writer. The story The Lady with the Pet Dog is placed in Russia at a resort town called Yalta. Dmitry, one of the main characters, goes through three stages of love. They are lust, passion, and love.
At first Dmitry is in the lust stage. He does not care about the women whom he is with. He thinks of them as an “inferior race”. Even with his wife, he thinks of her of limited intelligence, narrow-minded, dowdy, and on top of that he is afraid of her.
