In the past few months, there has been serious debate over a new
settlement entitled . People have been
arguing over the points in this proposed law, some saying it's too light of
a sentence and others expressing their acceptance of it. Before making your
own decision, you should consider the points in the agreement and those
made by the general public. But before we investigate these highlights, it
is interesting to know just what began this compromise that has enveloped
the nation in suspense and skepticism.

the money they lost through taxes and
various other costs because of the tobacco industry. Instead of dealing
with all forty states separately, the states and the tobacco companies came
to a compromise and decided it would be in the best interest of everyone if
they settled out of court.
There are five major points of this settlement that both parties
have signed and agreed to. The tobacco companies will have to pay $368
billion in damages over a span of twenty five years which would then be
spent on medical expenses for treating the ill infected by a tobacco
product, anti-tobacco campaigns, insurance money for young children, etc.
Another major factor effected is marketing. Tobacco companies can no longer
post billboards inside stadiums or outside in public places, print out
color ads with people or cartoons, sponsor sport-related events, sell their
products from vending machines, and people are no longer permitted to smoke
