The Pacific Theater

The U.S. was dragged into World War II because of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The Pacific Theater battles were fought in the Pacific region of the world in places like the Philippines, Japan etc.

There were five major battles in the Pacific Theater. From June to July 1944, there was the battle in Saipan located in the central pacific . American forces raided the small island and it was gained. It was a crucial piece of land because its airfields were where the B-29 bombs could be launched straight to Japan. It became the battle of the Philippine sea since Japan knew if the U.S. took this land they might be successful. About 29,000 troops were defeated, ...

the island Iwo Jima to secure American airstrips there. It took them one month to overtake the Japanese. Finally from April to June of 1945 was one of the deadliest battles in Okinawa. It took 82 days but finally Japan was invaded.

The American forces contributed to most of the Pacific Theater defeating Japan. They proved they were a force to be reckoned with.
