Many of the events leading to the Revolutionary War pertained to the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities. Some of these events included The Stamp Act of 1765, The Boston Tea Party in 1773, and The Boston Port Act passed in 1774. .
The Stamp Act of 1765 required the Americans to purchase government stamps to be placed on all legal documents, bonds, newspapers, insurance policies, and even playing cards. The merchants could no longer compete with the low prices offered by the agents of the East India Company. The colonial merchants would be driven out of business. With this threat to their businesses, the colonists reacted swiftly and crowds rioted in the streets. The Boston Tea Party was called “the boldest stroke which had yet been struck in America.” It marked the beginning of violence in the dispute. King George, demanded t hat the Americans be brought under control. As punishment, Parliament enacted a string of laws that colonists called the “Intolerable Acts.”
