"A Doll's House" is dealing with social problems. The heroine, Nora Helmer, lives with her husband and pretends to be happy and satisfied with life. However, there is no denying that Nora feels obligated to live her life as a caring mother and an obedient spouse. In other words, she tries to be the ideal wife and mother by letting herself be governed by the laws of society. She has to take care of her children and made sure that everything was perfect around the house. Work, politics, and decisions are left to the males and woman like Nora are portrayed as nothing more than property.

controlled by her husband. She has a subordinate role: she relies on him for everything, from movements to thoughts. One could argue that her most important obligation is to please her husband, making her role similar to that of a slave.
Nora’s society has a hypocrite side by making the characters believe what she wants them to believe. Torvald thinks that he needs to be there to watch out for her, and that she would be nothing without him. As to contradict him, circumstance suddenly place Nora in a responsible position. Nora broke the law and decided to borrow money to pay for her husbands' treatment. By doing this, she stepped away from the role society had placed on her of being totally dependent on her husband and brakes society's expectations. She was not thought to be as smart as Torvald, and therefore not expected to understand the world of money.
