The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson

The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson told an extravagant story of historical fiction based in the early 1900s. The story was committed to paper by Lois Simmie in 1995. The narrative follows the main character John Wilson, as he moves to Saskatchewan in order to prowl after work and a better life, he kills his wife and goes on to marry his new side piece that he met in Canada. It is told through a combination of letters written by the characters, and storytelling by Lois Simmie. The main storyline of the book is quite spellbinding, however, the book was way longer than it needed to be, and the character names and written letters became very tedious and hard to follow at times.

and could’ve been made into a short story even. Lois Simmie did an awful job telling this story, which is too bad because the storyline had lots of potential. It would have been way better if someone else wrote the book, like Dr. Suess for example, just imagine what he could have done with this storyline.

There was an excessive amount of character names in this story, and they were quite hard to follow at times. There were multiple characters, such as John, who went by multiple names in the story, that was quite vexatious, and it made the story quite incomprehensible at times. There were times when the characters referred to John as Jack, which led to lots of confusion and lots of annoyance. Another annoying feature was that they gave almost every character in the book a name, that was not needed, and became quite a nuisance, since small characters don’t need names and can just be referred to as their job title.
