the Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad or DL&W. This museum is huge. Its design astonished me. It had a working turntable and a roundhouse that were made as replicas of the ones used by DL&W. A turntable is a device that helps turn the locomotives and a roundhouse is a building where the locomotives are serviced. As stated on the national parks website "the replications of the roundhouse were constructed out of the remnants of a 1932 structure."
What really caught my eye that day was a video that we were shown. In this video shown in the theater at Steamtown showed a day in a life of a man and his career with the railroad. The film was called Steel and Steam. It amazed me to see how much the railroad has changed during the 20[th] century. You can see that when you enter the museum. Once inside the museum you are transported through time beginning with the early days of the railroad through the 1980's. Since Pennsylvania is known for its anthracite ...
