Although these men were discriminated against by their own countrymen because of the color of their skin, they nonetheless displayed valor and courage, revealing that they were in fact Americans who ironically fought for freedom regardless of the color of their skin, ultimately paving the way towards an integrated Armed Air Forces.
A history textbooks shows that as a result of the constant pressure brought about by groups such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and by the black society in general towards President Roosevelt, plans for an “experiment” was submitted by the air corps, which would establish an all-black fighter squadron- the first of any type in the history of the Armed Air Forces.
