On April 25 1483, Italian painter Leonardo Da Vinci was commissioned to paint an altar piece by the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception for their church, San Francesco in Milan. Da Vinci was in charge of painting the center of the altar piece that was to decorate the church, while the two wings were assigned to brothers Ambrogio [HYPERLINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrogio_de_Predis] and Evangelista de Predis.
