The work of Larry Bell is represented in some detail on his Web Site,[1]where he strives to introduce the vision of his work to those who are unable to view his pieces in "real space." Indeed, Bell himself, in his "flash" introduction to the site is direct in his assertion that a "cyber" space cannot fully capture the essence of the work. However, it can provide sense of intention-and perhaps pique the interest of potential appreciative patrons.
The striking thing about Bell's work is, first and foremost, the intended medium of his expression. Although he works in glass, paper, canvas, veneer, and bronze (to name a few), these materials are not his medium. ...

viewer sees that his glass sculptures, for example, his cubes, constructs, and large works, are not representations of Bell's art in their own right-but, instead, in Bell's words, are used to create "tapestries of reflected and transmitted light."
Indeed, in all of his works-his "vapor" drawings, created using the same techniques as his glass works, but with the added dimension of absorbed light (the essence of color), his paintings, or his metal figurative sculptures-light is of primary concern.
In short, Larry Bell is an artist of light-a man who uses the particle/wave nature of the medium to transmit the energy of his artistic expression. Be it reflected in glass, wood, paper, plastic, or metal, the light finds expression under the imagination of Bell-and reflection in the eye of his audience-yet another level of the tapestry of light he creates.
