Titanic: The Movie - The Rich and the Poor
In the movie, “Titanic” there are many symbols used by the director. Symbol I would like to discuss, and that is most interesting is how Mr. Cameron, the director, symbolized the rich and the poor. He attempted to show how the rich people were not as nice as the poor were, and how it came to destroy them. However, he showed us that neither all “rich” people nor all “poor” people could be classified together totally.

The director did show us that we shouldn’t classify people as “rich” or “poor”. Rose, one of the main characters in the story, was from a very wealthy family. She was engaged to marry a man from an equally wealthy family, but she wasn’t happy. Her fiancé was abusive and demanding. One night, she was attempting to kill herself by jumping off the boat, when Jack, the other main character stopped her. Jack was a poor man that didn’t even have enough money to pay for a ticket to be on the boat. He won it playing poker immediately before the boat left the dock. When Jack was able to talk Rose out of coming down from that railing, before they ever met, showed us two things. It showed us that Rose was a trusting person, willing to listen to this stranger who was obviously not as wealthy as she ...
