Who is eligible to drive and what is the right age in which people should stop driving? A proven fact is that as people grow older they are more susceptible to disease and mental illness. Conditions like arthritis, though it is possible to be affected at an early age. This does not mean to say that every senior citizen has something wrong with them which can lead to a fatality from physical limitations and should not be penalized by this typical stereotype. With their driver’s license in hand, the elderly have put on the miles, and now better understand the rules, and precautions needed for the road. This is why they drive slower than we would like, just to take those necessary precautions that younger drivers may not. In Florida, a statewide study of car crashes during 2002 showed that 19-year old drivers were involved in the most crashes. When compared to elderly people, the rates of teenage accidents are significantly higher. . This may explain the high rates, insurance companies charge to allow teenagers to drive. Older people can make better drivers than hot headed and impetuous youths as they have a lot more experience and tend to take fewer risks.
