After World War 2, the USSR started to build up satellite countries, hoping to strengthen her power. From Poland, Romania, Latvia to Serbia and other Eastern European countries, the USSR made those countries into communist countries and got involved with their politics. At the same time, with the financial help of the USSR, the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China was set up as a communist country; Cuba has fallen into the grasp of communism after Castro became the leader, who was friendly with USSR. Also, the existence of North Korea after the Korean War was posing a threat to the USA as well. In order to stop the further spread of communism in Asia, the USA had no way but to step in directly and start her plan from stopping Vietnam from transforming into a communist country first. Firstly, during the period, the greatest supporters were the US government officials themselves. The presidents themselves along with some senators claimed their act was wise and beneficial. President Eisenhower, Kennedy and Truman all agreed that the war was wise as it prevented a huge scale of communism takeover around the world. President Reagan once said that ˇ§American did not join the war only for our own interest; we did this for a greater good.
