War Diary

It is close to morning now. I have not been able to sleep well for months now. There is no sound or movement around me. It has been this quiet for the last few days. I have seen too much blood around me. Life is very different from what I expected. We constantly have to be on guard in case the enemies attack.

It is his time. His day has come. I will no longer see my roommate, as he has left to die for our country. He has devoted his time and life to the emperor, as have I. But it is his time now. My thoughts have been spinning in my mind. I cannot wait to return to my family. I have been away from home for too long. If I die here, will anyone care?
