Leaders should be able to lead the way, academically, as well as musically. These are select people that have certain characteristics that enable them to excel. Among these characteristics are confidence, discipline, respect and as Mr. Hill always says honesty. An effective leader must show confidence at all times: in the band, in himself, and in his section. When a leader believes in himself it shows, and others can clearly see and follow that example. Leaders cannot expect others to believe in them if they doubt themselves, or the decisions they make. I think that confidence is one of my strong qualities because whatever I do, I am confident in it, no matter what. Another trait that a good leader should possess is discipline. Leaders must be able to discipline themselves first and then their section. I feel that this is one aspect of my character where I could use the most improvement. ...
