Recreational use of Marijuana should remain illegal, as it is a harmful drug that causes severe mental and behavioural disorders; the negative long-term effects of cannabis greatly outweigh the positive; and Recreational drug use is a threat to public health.

Each of the conscripts were surveyed on “family, social background, behaviour during adolescence, and substance use—including first drug used, drug most commonly used, frequency of use, and direct questions regarding use of a list of specified drugs” (Zammit, 1200) .In the study, the researches made sure that the conscripts did not have a parental mental illness or a pre-existing psychotic illness at conscription. By controlling these factors, the researchers were able to get legitimate results. 15 years later, a follow up study was done on the participants. The results found that the odd ratio for developing schizophrenia was much higher for those who had smoked cannabis more than 10 times in their life (Zammit, 1201). The study shows that cannabis use indeed does increase chances of schizophrenia use by 30% (Zammit, 1202).
