Woman in The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby takes place in the roaring twenties which was a decade where women were becoming more independent, sexual, and started changing the traditional role of a woman. In the book The Great Gatsby there are three major female characters Daisy Buchanan who is the â€śit girlâ€ť and whom everyone admires, Jordan Baker is the â€śindependent womanâ€ť who is androgynous, Myrtle is the â€śGold Diggerâ€ť with a thirst for materialism but then again Daisy also quenches that same thirst. All three ladies have different characteristics although they all share the similar trait of being manipulative.

Myrtle used manipulation in order to get what she wants, she would speak her mind and usually ends up winning an argument. Daisy and Myrtle both think that men are above woman.
