The myth on page 197 of Antigone is about the most powerful ruler of all, Zeus. In the first few lines, Zeus is portrayed as a supernatural being that dislikes people who brag about their own success. For instance he sees a man obtain many riches and strikes him with fire because of his pompous attitude. His anger is displayed through this action. Also, his triumphant manner is shown when he yells victory from the walls. Furthermore, Zeus thunders down to earth with his torch and a “lunatic breathing out hate” knocks it out of his hand. the myth Zeus displays acts of tyranny and obtains what he wants. However, his aggression leads to his downfall. He battles Poseidon and loses his life as a result. Also, the theme of pride is highlighted throughout the lines. Pride is something that is frowned upon by the Gods and is punished with great cruelty when one commits an act of pride. For example, Creon creates a law because he believes it is divine will. As a result he is punished and has to suffer the loss of his loved ones.
