AIDS In The Classroom

Your five-year-old child is in a class of 20. One of the 20 kids
has AIDS. Wouldn't you like to know which one?
Informing the parents and teachers about a child with AIDS should
be done. The last that we want to do is ostracize a child who life is
already in upheaval. He or she has a right to learn in a non-bias
environment. However, it's a parents right to know the risks their children
are under. Kids will be kids. They will, on occasion, scratch and bite
when they get in little fights. Who knows what other situations may arise
that could compromise the health of a child. Not informing those concerned
is a violation of human rights.

what kind of environment is it to learn in when your teacher can't treat
your scrapes without putting rubber gloves on first, a situation which will
certainly lead to ridicule from peers.

EDUCATE. By educating the parents and teachers about the facts of AIDS and
HIV and how it is transmitted addresses both parties needs. The parents
know the facts and can decide rationally on the steps they will take
concerning their children, and the AIDS victim has a better chance of being
treated equally on account of the knowledge about their disease.
Every child has a right to a good education. They should all be
allowed to learn and grow in an environment that does not judge them and
that treats them equally regardless of their health. There is no guarantee
that the child will not be ostracized once ...
