To prepare for possible future job placement and to apply information learned from this course, we were asked to contact a social service agency of our choice and arrange an in person information gathering interview. I chose the Children's Bureau/The Department of Child Services. The Childrenâ€™s Bureau focuses on improving the lives of children and families through programs that reduce child abuse and neglect, increase the number of adoptions, and strengthen foster care. state of Indiana. A lady by the name of Kaitlyn Smarelli was so kind to allow me to schedule an interview with her. Kaitlyn is the mother of a child in my classroom, she has been employed with DCPS since 2010. Kaitlyn explained that the Childrenâ€™s Bureauâ€™s and DPCS has highly-trained case managers that identify and address issues that tear families apart. They do so in different ways:

â€¢ Prevent - Empower families with professional support and community resources to eliminate issues that lead to entry into the child welfare system.

â€¢Intervene - Work with families who find themselves in the â€œsystemâ€ to accomplish the required goals to keep their children. Protect - Recruit and strengthen foster and adoptive homes.
