He said the function of these kinds of songs were to bring people into the group wanting change or different course of movement.

During the early 1900's, folk music was used because it brought into the political group all of the rural people. This music was used to create a protest movement to help common laborers. The music was used to speak to the people that attended political union meetings. It spoke to their hearts and captivated the minds of those who attended.
