Anorexia nervosa is characterized by an unnormal dread of becoming fat with also a relentless pursuit of thinness. People with anorexia will go above and beyond to stay thin, but the catch is that its never good enough. No matter how much weight they lose or how much they count their calories its never good enough for them. They never maintain a steady body weight, and gaining weight is their worst nightmare. with anorexia health isn't even a concern. When people are just dieting they have more self-esteem then just there weight but when someone is suffering from anorexia being thin is all that matters. There are different signs for people with anorexia such as dieting despite being thin, obsession with calories, fat grams, and nutrition, pretending to eat or lying about eating. Anorexia is in the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders which is more proof that anorexia is a disease.
There are two types of anorexia. There is the restricting type and there is the purging type. The restricting type is weight loss achieved by restricting calories drastically. Purging type is when people eat what they want but vomit later to get rid of the calories. Anorexia is most common between adolescent girls and young women, the age range is from 13 through 20. But anorexia can vary throughout any age and in any gender.
