The implementation of Language Assessment in SMA Negeri 1 Kediri

This paper is the interpretation of what we get from the field (classroom). We come to the school to get data. In SMA Negeri 1 Kediri there are nine English teachers. In doing observation we directly come to the class of some teachers. There we observe the class and find some conclusions.

I. The Construct of Language Assessment

The teachers define the construct of language assessment divided into two:

1. Listening and reading as passive (receptive) skill and it belongs to cognitive.

Listening and Reading

In the listening and Reading, the assessment that is used by the teacher is in term of combination with the other skills. It can be in term of speaking (oral) or writing (written/paper and pen).

For example:

In listening, students given an oral text and the teachers ask the students to retell or find some information from the text orally.

The teachers ask students to make a portfolio in reading narrative text. The teachers ask the students to find a story and analyze the story in term of find the characters, setting, problem, resolution, moral message etc.

Speaking

In speaking, the assessment can be in form of the teachers give the students some questions based on the topic and ask the students to answer the question orally. Some teachers also held the assessment in combination with writing skill, they ask the students to create a dialogue in pair and ask them to practice the dialogue.
