Children's Theatre Review: Boxcar Children

Arden Children's Theatre is Philadelphia's first resident professional children's theatre program. Amazingly, Arden Children's Theatre produces children's shows with the same caliber of actors, designers and budgets it uses on the mainstage.
An informative Q&A session follows each performance where kids in the audience get to ask the actors anything about the productions. After the show they get to meet the cast one-on-one in the lobby and take photographs and have their pictures taken with the cast.

for the stage by Barbara Field from the children's book series by Gertrude Chandler Warner. Whit MacLaughlin and F. Otto Haas directed the performance. The play is about siblings Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny Alden. After losing their parents, the foursome set out on their own to try to create their own family with each other. The story takes place during the Depression and times are really hard for them. But, through their resourcefulness and determination to make it, these devoted siblings begin to create a home for themselves-without any adult supervision. The "home" is actually an abandoned boxcar that resides on the banks of a creek. While they are trying to survive, their grandfather, whom they have never met, is working to locate them so that he can legally adopt them. When a major crisis threatens to uncover the secret that the children have been living on their own in the boxcar, fate steps in and offers a happy ending for them all.
