Breathe

In the book Breathe a twelve-year-old asthmatic boy, Jack, has recently lost his father. To help the two of them recover, Jack's mother decides to move them to an old house with lots of history. Almost immediately, he senses the presence of others who have settled in the house since their deaths. Jack is not a normal boy though he can talk to ghosts. In this house there is a ghost named the 'Ghost Mother' who is a grief-stricken spirit. There are four other ghost children that live in teh house as well. Ghost Mother is in Jack's mother's body, she tries to hug and love Jack but he tries to fight back. However, since she is stronger than Jack he is not able to win the battle and has starts to have a severe asthma attack. The Ghost Mother does not get him his inhaler and just lays him on his bed until his breathing has become neutral. While Jack falls asleep the Ghost Mother finds the ghost children and takes the rest of their souls and sends them to the Nightmare Passage. Jack woke up later on and didn't hear the ghost children but heard a little girl in his room. It was the Ghost Mother's daughter, Isabella, who had died at a young age because of Taburculous. Isabella told Jack why her mother is an angry cruel ghost and they come together and trick the Ghost Mother into the Nightmare Passage.
