Cellular Respiration

The first step in cellular respiration is called glycolysis, the process in which all living organisms harness energy from food molecules. This is a sequence of chemical reactions where glucose is broken down into two molecules of a substance called pyruvate. There are two different phases within this step, the uphill or preparatory, and the downhill payoff phase. Meaning you must use some energy to make more energy, and in the end the payoff is more rewarding and worth the effort.
