According to film Charlie Wilson's War, a texas congressman went to extreme measures to prevent the Red Army from seizing control over Afghanistan. Unbeknownst to the congressman, these effort would lead to the collapse of the Soviet Union and pouring gas on the fire of quickly rising radical Islam. Using his connections as a key member of the House Appropriations Committee, Wilson began a strategic plan provide a substantial amount of money for the training of the Mujahideen as well as weapons to turn the tide of the struggle.
