In America today our youth face many difficult problems, whether it be physical, mental or both. One of these problems is childhood obesity; which means children and adolescents being extremely overweight. This causes both a physical and mental health issue that can lead to major problems when they reach adulthood. "In 2010 more than one third of the children and adolescents were overweight or obese" (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Childhood obesity is a problem on the rise, but it can be changed with proper eating and exercise.

2013). The best thing to do is cut out all fast food in general. Cook your meals at home, using proper portion sizes as well as eating more greens and less fatty foods. Get healthy snacks, such as fruits and fresh veggies. Try to avoid potato chips and soda as much as possible. One way that you can get your children to eat healthier snacks is to make it fun. Cut strawberries to look like flowers, and for younger kids make happy faces with the fruit. Cook with your children and show them that smaller meals can be just as satisfying and filling. Go out within your community and either join or start your own cooking classes for parents of obese children. To learn how to prepare healthy, cost efficient meals, as well as being able to talk to other parents who are in the same "boat" as you may be. Support is everything.
