The Cold War was divided into three separate groups. The United States and the West was considered the democratic systems. Next was the Soviet Union along with the Eastern Countries. The last but not least is the non-aligned group that was the East and West that didn't want to be associated with either of the other two groups. The Containment Doctrine was a strategy and guiding line for the American foreign policy just after WWII and went until the demise of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991.
