Transportation Systems in the Radiant City and the Broadacre City

The utopian architectures of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright are a response to the industrialization (Kennedy, 2003). The industrialization era in the Western world brought about rapid urbanization, which in turn resulted a chaotic situation in cities. The automobile also caused congestion and danger for pedestrian in the streets. These problems brought about the need for a reinvention of the city to benefit both people and nature.

also the forms that Le Corbusier attempts to create in his Radiant City. Intrinsic in this ideal is the rejection of realism in representation. This is replaced by an attempt to represent the true nature of an object. True forms then, in Le Corbusier's view, are also free of ornamentation of any kind. This leaves geometric shapes and figures. This develops into Corbusier's ideas of capitalist rationality, as well as the aesthetic of the machine.
These are the concepts he brings to his design of the Radiant City. This creation is based on Le Corbusier's ideas regarding capitalist authority and a recognition of workers' freedoms. Le Corbusier's design entails clearing the entire historic city, and rebuilding with the aid of modern production methods. The pre-fabricated apartment houses are called "les unites", and they are at the center of life in the city. These apartment houses are fifty meters high, and are planned to accommodate 2,700 inhabitants.
