Death of a Salesman - Tragedy

In Julius Caesar, the protagonist, Julius Caesar is assassinated by his supposed cronies. The work is considered a tragedy due to the false pride Julius had for his friends; believing that they want nothing but the best for him and that he is above harm. In Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the main character, Willy Loman commits suicide due to his overwhelming feelings of failure. He hopes that the money from his life insurance will help his family in his death better than he can in his life. When he dies, the play leaves off on a solemn and elegiac mood causing feelings of sympathy and heartbreak in the audience. he isn’t acknowledged at work the way the most respected men are; how he just sits in his car sometimes because he isn’t making deals like he used to. Mr. Loman places so much emphasis on how much people like him and is discouraged when “people don’t seem to take to [him]” (36); completely ignoring the fact that he is still able to provide for his family.
Later on in the play, Willy gets in a heated argument with Bernard, his neighbor’s son, trying to defend himself against the implied accusation that he is to blame for Biff not being able to graduate and go to the University of Virginia as he had desired.
